Mining is the safest, most reliable way to earn resources in Battlestar Galactica Online on BSGO Nova. You scan and destroy asteroids for Tylium, Titanium and Water — and you can do it in protected sectors free of enemy players.
What you need for mining
Head to the Hangar and grab a Raptor (Colonial) or Heavy Raider (Cylon). It costs only ~100 Tylium, and its larger energy pool and regen make mining far easier. Remember to actually switch to it after buying.
Then visit the Item Shop and fit basic mining gear. The bare minimum is a couple of mining guns and a scanner. To equip gear, drag it from the shop list onto a valid slot on your ship.
Useful extras:
- Turbo Boosters (engines) — move faster.
- Damage Control (DC) in the hull slot — some self-healing, just in case.
- Damage Buffs (computer slots) — mine faster.
- Enhanced Sensor Module — extra DRADIS range for no energy cost; great if you fear ganks.
- Capacitor Module — more max energy.
How to mine
- Choose a sector. The closer to the middle and the higher the threat, the bigger the yield — but the tougher the rocks. As a beginner, stick to the first or second protected sector.
- Approach the asteroid.
- Scan it.
- Destroy it if the scan is worthwhile.
Scan colors
- Red — nothing good. Skip it.
- Yellow — Tylium. Often skipped, but mine it if you need Tylium.
- Purple — Titanium. Useful for upgrades, and often a mission objective.
- Blue — Water, the most desirable. Sells for Cubits (5 water = 1 Cubit) at any Item Shop.
You also gain experience for every asteroid mined.
Scaling up
- Level 10 — unlock a command escort, more efficient than strikes (run ~2 mining guns).
- Level 20 — unlock lines and the command liner, the most efficient mining machine (~3 mining guns; 4 if you want to burst rocks faster at the cost of energy). Liners are juicy targets for gankers — stay alert.
Pro tips
- Invest in Asteroid Mining and Capacitor Management skills first — they’re the most impactful upgrades. Electronic Support helps too.
- Mine in a group: yield is shared, but you gain a 10% bonus to everything and can see each other’s scan results.
- NPCs in the first two safe sectors aren’t aggressive.
- Pre-select a jump sector on arrival so you can press J to flee the moment danger appears.
- Mining one spot too long can cause resources to respawn elsewhere.
